Masahiko Sunami is a Japanese composer, media artist, and sound engineer.
Born in Tokyo, Masahiko moved to New York in early childhood. He went on to study electrical engineering and electronic music composition, earning a Bachelor’s degree from Brown University and a Master’s degree from California Institute of the Arts. After more than 20 years working as a sound engineer in Los Angeles, he has returned to focus on his creative practice in recent years.
Having studied music since early childhood, his background in music spans from classical and jazz traditions to Indian music and various world music cultures. Drawing on this diverse foundation, he creates soundscapes and immersive audio compositions, as well as audiovisual works that incorporate procedural, audio visualization algorithm.
In addition to his long career as a sound engineer, he has professional experience in Japanese–English translation and website development. This website was designed, built, and is maintained by himself.
